PROJECT DETAILS

The City of Alameda has $2,000,000 from FEMA to seismically upgrade and preserve the historic Carnegie Library Building. Upgrades are needed to improve the response of the building in a major earthquake, improve building accessibilty for people with mobility impairments, make the structure water tight, modernize building systems, make required life safety improvements, and repair and restore historic finishes.

Our initial study showed that the total cost to do everything required is $4,000,000. Working with the cost estimator, we defined a scope of repairs that would seismically upgrade the building, fix the leaks, and repair the historic exterior, while leaving the accessibilty and life safety improvements for a second phase after the City decides who will be the future tenant of the building.

We will begin construction documents as soon as the City decides the overall scope to include in the budget.
