Repairs, 1995

After determining that the original building was in danger of imminent collapse, we moved quickly to protect the building. Our recommendation and design for emergency shoring was implemented in time for the building to withstand the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake with minor additional damage.

PROJECT DETAILS

The original building, a slab-on-grade and concrete warehouse structure built in 1972, was severely damaged with cracks and deteriorating foundation. We determined that the building had suffered a major structural failure due to settling of the Bay mud underlying the foundation.

After the emergency shoring, in subsequent phases we selected and then repaired and upgraded an offsite location, the former GM/Volvo Truck Repair Facility. We then moved the heavy equipment maintenance offsite in order to demolish the most severely damaged portion of the builidng in 1998.
