PROJECT DETAILS

Looking like concrete bunkers, this 300 unit family housing project was built during World War II using the then-popular concept of removing existing streets to create automobile-free "superblocks".  As a result, residents felt they lived in a "project" rather than feeling a part of the surrounding community.

The initial design work, including the site plan concept, was done by Tom Caulfield when he was a principal with IDG Architects..
